In the word “귀,” the Korean letter “ㅟ”, although a combination of the simple vowels “ㅜ” and “ㅣ”, is considered a simple vowel.


In modern Seoul Korean, especially among younger speakers, “ㅔ” and “ㅐ” are often pronounced very similarly.

In the word “회사,” the Korean letter “ㅚ” is a combination of the simple vowels “ㅗ” and “ㅣ”. Sounding like a shortened “wae”, it is also considered a simple vowel.

When “ㅇ” is combined with “ㅢ”, it is pronounced as [ui].

However, when another consonant meets “ㅢ”, it is pronounced as [i].
